BACKGROUND:
In 2024, Historic Savannah Foundation purchased a 1964 ranch-style bungalow at 917 Wexler Street in the historic Carver Village neighborhood through its Revolving Fund. HSF began partnering with Home Buyers of Savannah and with general contractor Jason Miller of Construction Pros in the summer of 2025. Carver Village became a National Register Historic District in January 2019 and features more than 500 houses, churches and buildings.
917 Wexler Street maintains a high degree of historic integrity and is representative of the distinctive type and style of architecture in Savannah’s historic Carver Heights neighborhood. As conditions of the sale, HSF will place an affordable housing covenant on the property for 10 years from the date of purchase. A protective easement will also be placed on the property’s exterior, which requires HSF review and approval of any repairs or alterations to the historic building and any new construction.
