  Farr/Dancy Duplex

  Built: c.1913
   District: Victorian
   Square Footage: 1,964

The Farr/Dancy duplex was built in 1913 for R.W. Farr and W.R. Dancy as a duplex for Savannah’s working class.  The first residents to live there were a clerk, a fireman, and their spouses.  Though it is currently in need of restoration, the property still features plenty of historic character, from its original pressed-tin shingle roof, to it’s four original fire place mantels.  The front facade has been modified over the years, but most likely featured rounded doric columns originally, as well as classical diamond-paned window sashes.  A photo of a similar building can be found in the thumbnails below.  Those looking for a great investment opportunity at a prime intersection, right across the street from SCAD’s Anderson Hall will want to watch this one closely. Stay tuned for additional info about open houses and the RFP process.

Goetke/Jackson Cottage

Built: 1898
District: National Landmark
Square Footage: 1,450 sq. ft.

This Victorian cottage/duplex was built in 1898 by Matilda Goetke, and was one of five identical structures she built along East Broad and Nicoll Street for workers at the nearby Atlantic Coast Railroad yard. Today three of the five cottages survive. This one will need extensive repairs due to a failing roof, but despite its current condition it still retains some marvelous features. This house is currently not for sale. HSF is assessing the property and evaluating different courses for rehab. Please check back for more info.
