MASHH

The Mayor’s Alliance to Save Historic Houses (MASHH) is one of HSF’s best tools for eliminating blight without compromising Savannah’s historic landscape.  In response to an increased threat of demolitions of historic properties in 2008 (and the prospect of more to come), HSF pursued and received a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation to establish a full-time position to take on this issue.  We created a program that works with the City–not against the City–to bring solutions to blight and demolition-by-neglect.  The result is a working partnership that targets the most endangered properties and provides technical assistance to bring them back into code compliance, alleviating the immediate threat of demolition, while longer-term solutions are developed by the property owner.

The MASHH program  provides technical assistance, advocacy and education to help property owners save historic buildings before they are lost to demolition.
