What Does It Mean To Be A Member?

July 1st, 2015

Membership-webA member is a member is a member, or are they? What exactly does it mean to be a member of Historic Savannah Foundation? This organization was founded in 1955 by a group of committed citizens who wanted to save the architectural fiber of this City. Those founding community leaders invited other concerned citizens to get involved—to help make a difference—and, HSF’s membership was created to help support the cause. Being a member of Historic Savannah Foundation means you care about the community’s cultural heritage. It means you want to be part of a voice to help protect what makes Savannah unique. Membership means you want to support an organization which, for 60 years, has advocated to protect Savannah’s historic city plan and to enhance livability, and has educated and involved citizens in a movement which has been successful in directly protecting and saving more than 360 buildings. read more…

Hands on History Camp 2015

July 1st, 2015

29-Camp-CompletionHSF is proud to announce that we had 25 students participate in this year’s Hands on History Summer Camp. During the week of May 25-29, HSF hosted a group of young preservationists that included exciting field trips and hands-on activities. The program was made possible in large part by the sponsorship of  Rives E. Worrell Co., a JE Dunn Construction Company; Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation; and the City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs’ Weave – A – Dream Initiative.

During the week, campers were able to visit historic sites ranging from the Massie School in downtown Savannah to the Tybee Island Light Station. This year we kicked off the camp with a Family Day, which included the parents and siblings of campers, for a short tour of the monuments in Emmet Park and the Bull Street corridor before enjoying a picnic in Forsyth Park to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday. We were very excited to expand our audience to as many as 40 people with all who joined. read more…
